FYI: I’m still talking about being on The Today Show because it’s basically one of the coolest things that has ever happened to me. I am someone who has never been cool. To prove this point, here is a picture of what I looked like in the third grade. Trust me, you definitely want to click that link. So obviously I am overly excited about this. Just like my mother was overly excited about teasing my hair circa 1991, apparently.
(And this post contains a few affiliate links, because this blog is my job and all. And a lot of selfies because how else do you take pictures of what you are wearing? Unless you pose with a Fandango girl. No seriously, that happened. You’ll see. Also, this is why I rarely write What I Wore posts, y’all. Because of all the selfie requirements.)
So when I told my three best girlfriends that The Today Show was coming to my house they all had one question for me. Which was “What are you going to wear?” Because, what DO you wear for something like The Today Show?
A shirt that you bought on the Target clearance rack, of course. Let’s not pretend that I am fancy. That shirt cost eight dollars. I also wore these mint denim pants by Just Black that actually came in one of my Stitch Fix boxes. I eyed them suspiciously when the box arrived because I wasn’t sure I could pull of mint pants on account of the whole thing about how I’m afraid of fashion but I ended up really loving them.
I wore my favorite necklace that a blog reader made from Jerusalem stone and sent to me a few years back. It’s sort of my touchstone necklace and I wish I could link you but I don’t think they make them anymore. Also, you can not see it thanks to all my hair. I am very helpful.
And I ordered these shoes from Modcloth (this link will give you $15 off!) because I have looked everywhere for some Princess Kate style nude wedges. Except I don’t have the budget for ACTUAL Princess Kate shoes because those cost more than my mortgage. Please see: buys clothes off Target clearance racks. These were much more affordable and I knew I could wear them with all of my dresses for the Mom 2.0 conference.
I put Scarlette in this cute tunic and legging set from Carter’s (They have 50% off everything right now!) and could not talk her into any other shoes so she is wearing $4 Old Navy Flip Flops (coupon codes, people, I love them.) She HAS beautiful silver sparkly shoes that her Aunt Jeanette bought for her but ever since she discovered flip flops that is basically all she will wear. She is all FLIP FLOPS FOR LYFE! And even The Today Show is not enough incentive for me to make footwear a battle with my three year old, y’all.
And since I rarely have a reason to dress up, I’m going to share what I wore to Mom 2.0 Summit this past weekend because typically my #WIWW instagrams are full of pictures of me in my favorite “Every Day I’m Snufflin” shirt. You think I’m kidding but I’m totally not.
Normally most of my work with brands is done via email so the conference was a great chance for me to schedule a few face to face meetings to work out some fun new contracts and to say thanks in person to some of my favorite companies that I’ve had an ongoing relationship with, like Minted. It’s a fairly formal, professional event so I was excited to dress up and I ended up getting to film a few segments with Headline News while I was there (WHAT?!) so I was happy that I took the three fancy things I own. Literally. I own three fancy things.
I carried this bag that was sent to me by Spartina 449. I saw it at a local boutique and fell in love and told my husband it was on my birthday wish list. So when they emailed me about working together I was like “THIS IS AMAZING” because I hadn’t even pinned it or mentioned it online or anything. Then I learned that the founder of the company used to own the scrapbooking company K&Co! No WONDER I like their designs so much, I still HAVE some K&Co in my scrapbooking supply stash because I loved that brand! I get more compliments on this purse than anything I have ever carried. Seriously, someone stops me every single time I take it out. It is the Barrel Satchel in the Martinangel pattern and it is crazy cute.
For the opening night dinner I wore this outfit that I put together for Sears back in the fall. The white top and yellow shoes are from Sears, the skirt is from Stitch Fix and the bracelet was c/o Spartina 449. The casual pink dress is by Ann Taylor Loft that I ordered from the new ThredUp online consignment store. Y’all. I will do a whole post about this soon because it is the best secondhand shopping I have ever found. That dress cost $8! And it’s so cute!
The cardigan wrap is by Subtle Luxury from my latest Stitch Fix box and it is the best wrap I’ve ever owned. Trust me, request it in your box. And I wore my trusty blue Stitch Fix wrap-dress for the night that Fandango Family treated me and a few blogger friends to dinner at Empire State South – if you are local I highly recommend them for dinner. Also, “I don’t know how to dress myself and basically just let Stitch Fix do it” is the theme of this post, apparently.
I snagged this fancy pink dress from Banana Republic in a 40% off sale completely because it looked like something I thought Princess Kate might wear and I figure since I don’t totally know what I’m doing when it comes to fashion it’s probably just a good idea to stick to whatever the world’s style icon is doing. I wore my Modcloth shoes with almost all of those outfits and they were really comfortable, which was good because the event involved a lot of walking. And because I hate packing.
The bracelet that I’m wearing in most of these pictures is this one c/o Spartina 449 that I loved and then subsequently lost at the conference. And no one even turned it in to lost and found AT THE RITZ so someone else is walking around with my bracelet right now.
So now it’s back to messy hair and my Every Day I’m Snuffling shirt but it was fun to get to break out of mom-clothes mode for a few days!
I’m linking up with #whatiworewednesday over at The Pleated Poppy today because dang if this post didn’t take forever to write.
