I think it is well documented on the internet that Jen Hatmaker is one of my favorite authors. And one of my favorite parts of blogging is getting to review early copies of books before they release, because I am a girl who loves literature of all kinds.
So when I saw Jen Hatmaker post on facebook that she had limited openings for the launch team for her book that releases in August I thought to myself “Self, this is pleasing to me because I would like to read an advance copy of this book and I shall attempt to snag a space by filling out this form that she posted.”
She mentioned that there were only 500 spots for reviewers and I noticed that about 400 people had commented. Normally the way these things work is that the form will close once a certain number is reached. So I assumed that since I was able to open the form, I had most likely definitely gotten a spot on the team.
I felt a bit rushed to fill out the form before it closed and also because this whole little scenario was taking place as I was sitting in preschool carline waiting for after school release to start.
And since I am not SUPPOSED to be on my phone in carline and also since I’ve already been reprimanded about accidentally going out of turn in carline, and since my turn was fast approaching, I just dashed off my name and blog address really quickly.
Just as I was getting to the part where it asked WHY I wanted to be a part of the launch team for the book, which is titled For The Love, the carline started moving.
And that is the story of how I literally just wrote FOR THE LOVE, OBVIOUSLY.
Then later I learned that this particular form did not actually close when the limit was reached and also that over 5,000 people applied and then I thought to myself “Self, you have made a very poor choice here and can no longer be trusted with important things.”
So I was shocked when I got an email telling me that I had been chosen. I can only assume that one of two things have happened here: Either I somehow was accidentally sent an acceptance email (and if so, I VOLUNTEER AS TRIBUTE!) or someone on Jen Hatmaker’s marketing team has the exact same sense of humor as me.
I sincerely hope that it is the latter and I also would like to meet that person.
This is one of those books that I just can’t wait to read
I am trying to wait to read the book until this weekend when I am sitting on an airplane on account of how I am a little bit terrified of flying.
And by a little bit I mean I’m the girl who forces total strangers to hold her hand as she hyperventilates while the plane takes off. And while it’s flying. And while it’s landing. And sometimes as we walk off said plane.
For the love.
Anyhow, I am in need of some recommendations of additional new reading material for the plane. Preferably something light-hearted and even better if it is Amish Fiction.
Amish fiction is one of my favorite genres, dating back to my tween years. I just finished a new book that Family Christian sent me to review called Anna’s Crossing. Suzanne Woods Fisher is one of my favorite authors of it so I was anxiously awaiting this one. Anna’s Crossing is set aboard a ship, focusing the passage of her Amish community to America. I loved that it veered (no pun intended) from traditional Amish fiction settings. And while I wasn’t completely surprised by it, I really enjoyed the twist towards the end. If you like Amish fiction then this is definitely one worth reading.
So now I’m back on an Amish Fiction kick and since I have many, many hours to fill with layovers and what not I would like to read more of it. And also maybe something that will make me laugh, you know, to distract me from crying hysterically while we fly over the ocean.
